The Society can trace its roots back to 1892, when the first “Heswall Flower Show” was held on Saturday 27th  August, ‘in a marquee in a convenient field lent by Mr. Brocklebank, who also supplied the tent.’ Since then the Society has withstood the strains and vagaries of two world wars and all the various  developments within the area. Much has changed in the intervening years, but the Society’s aims – “to share  knowledge, promote competitive shows and encourage horticultural excellence,”  hold true to the present day. We  try to keep abreast of the latest horticultural trends and developments, by the choice and variety of our monthly  speakers, and our visits to varied gardens on our organized trips.  The Society is run by a Committee drawn from and elected by its members, and is well known for its friendly  and sociable atmosphere.  However, you do not have to be an experienced gardener to join us. If you have a real interest in gardening  and horticulture, just come along and you will find a warm welcome.  Membership Membership entitles you to attend all monthly meetings (tea and biscuits included). Our regular newsletter, as well as eligibility to join in all of our other social activities. Members are also able to enter exhibits in the ‘members only’ sections at the Annual Show. The membership year runs from 1st February to 31st January each year, with an annual fee of £12. To join simply come along to any meeting and make yourself known.
